ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø is thrilled to announce that Yvan Cahour, patisserie lecturer at Hammersmith and Fulham College, has been awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of Agricultural Merit (Ordre du Mérite Agricole) by the French Republic. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday 21 January 2025 and was presided over by the French Ambassador, Hélène Duchêne, at the French Embassy in London.

This highly esteemed order, established in 1883, recognises individuals for their exceptional contributions to agriculture and its related fields. Often referred to as the ‘Knighthood of Agriculture,’ it holds a distinguished position, second only to the Legion of Honour in French precedence. The award celebrates not only those directly involved in agriculture but also educators and researchers whose dedication uplifts the field and its impact on society.
In her speech, Ambassador Hélène Duchêne highlighted Yvan’s unwavering commitment to excellence in patisserie and confectionery education at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø. She also praised his profound influence on his students, including Suzana Cirkovic, who studied Level 2 Patisserie & Confectionery in 2019. Suzana now works as a Pastry Chef at the French Embassy, a position she has achieved thanks to the foundational skills and mentorship she received under Yvan’s guidance.
Mentoring and teaching students who work in TASTE Restaurant at Hammersmith and Fulham College, which is open to the public, Yvan’s commitment to fostering the next generation of pastry chefs has earned him admiration from both students and colleagues.
Yvan expressed his gratitude for the recognition saying: “It’s an incredible honour to receive this award. My aim has always been to share my love for patisserie with my students, helping them to achieve their best. Seeing former students go on to achieve great success like Suzana, who is thriving in her role at the French Embassy, is the ultimate reward for a teacher.”
Denise Charles, Head of Service Industries, added: “Yvan’s ability to inspire and nurture excellence is truly extraordinary, and we are all so proud of him and this recognition.”
