Our Art & Design - Level 2 study programme is your passport to a world of artistic expression. You'll explore a diverse range of creative techniques, from traditional drawing and painting to cutting-edge digital design. At ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, you'll gain the UAL Art and Design - Level 2 qualification, alongside English and maths to help you achieve a grade 4 (or higher) in both subjects.
You'll gain knowledge and skills, including:
- Core Skills: Master the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and sculpture
- Digital Design: Dive into the exciting world of software-based design, animation, and web development
- Creative Problem-Solving: Learn how to generate innovative ideas and bring them to life
- Project-Based Learning: Work on a major final project to showcase your skills and talent
Throughout the course, you'll develop your artistic skills and build a strong foundation for further study or a career in the creative industries.
You should have:
- Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths at grade 3 or Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications
or - A relevant Level 1 course and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths.
At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.
We will also ask you to bring a portfolio of work, demonstrating your drawing and painting skills, including examples of observational drawing.
Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.
You’ll be graded on a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Unclassified. This grading system helps you see how well you’re doing and where you can improve.
You’ll build a portfolio of your coursework, showcasing your progress throughout the course. Plus, you’ll get hands-on experience through practical assignments and receive feedback from your tutors.
After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for further study or employment in the industry, such as a Level 3 Extended Diploma, which can lead to university-level study.

- Introduction to contextual research in art & design
- Introduction to drawing skills
- Introduction to communication skills in art & design
- Solving 2D creative problems
- Solving 3D creative problems
- Solving time-based creative problems

School Leavers (16-18)
If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.

As part of your studies, you will be required to maintain a basic art kit, which includes essential tools such as a range of pencips and pens, a ruler, eraser, scissors, glue, a black permanent marker (eg a Sharpie), an A3 sketchbook, and an A3 wallet. These materials will help you to create your artwork and keep your projects organised. We also recommend you purchase a 1TB hard drive to store and transport your digital design files.
