Our GCSE English course is designed for students aiming to achieve a grade 4, the standard pass required for progression to further study, apprenticeships, and many careers.
Through a structured programme of coursework, speaking and listening activities, and a final examination, you will develop essential skills in reading, writing, analysis, and communication.
Daytime classes are available at Hammersmith & Fulham College, Ealing Green College and Southall Community College. We also have evening classes available at both Hammersmith & Fulham College and Ealing Green College.
It is recommended that you have:
- GCSE English at grade 3 or Functional Skills at Level 2
​If you do not have any qualifications, you will be asked to take an online assessment.
You will have much-improved employment opportunities as this qualification provides firm evidence of your ability to communicate effectively in a number of ways. You may be able to use the qualification to progress onto a range of Level 3 courses, or to improve your chances of entering higher education. You can progress onto higher level courses or seek employment.
Achieving a high grade in GCSE English will not only develop your language skills it will also enable you to have a qualification that is looked on positively by employers.
Topics covered can include:
- Reading skills – how to understand, interpret, and compare a wide range of texts
- Language analysis – exploring how writers use words, structure, and techniques to create impact and meaning
- Creative writing – developing your own writing style to produce engaging stories, descriptions, and narratives
- Transactional writing – writing for purpose and audience, such as letters, articles, speeches, and reviews
- Speaking and listening – preparing and delivering presentations, taking part in discussions, and building confidence in spoken communication
- Exam preparation – practising past papers, timed responses, and strategies to maximise your marks
Adult Students (19+)
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
