IT (Digital Technology) - Level 1

ABOUT THIS COURSE

If you're looking to start a career in IT or computing, our IT Level 1 course will provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to progress further in this fast-evolving industry, while also developing essential study skills that will set you up for success at Level 2 and beyond.

Throughout this course, you will:

  • Develop key study skills such as being organised, working with others, researching topics, and creating a personal progression plan
  • Explore digital communication technologies and learn how to solve technical IT problems
  • Gain hands-on experience by creating practical projects like spreadsheets, websites, and even software
  • Learn how to create digital animated graphics, adding a creative aspect to your technical skill set

Whether you’re aiming to continue your studies at a higher level or start your career in the IT industry, this course is a great stepping stone to achieve your goals.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

We recommend that you have:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and maths
    or
    Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.

You’ll build a portfolio of your coursework, showcasing your progress throughout the course. Plus, you’ll get hands-on experience through practical assignments and receive feedback from your tutors. Some elements, such as Functional Skills, may also have external exams.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for further study in the ICT industry, such as a study programme at Level 2.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will learn in dedicated classrooms and IT labs with the latest software and equipment.

You will have up to 16 hours of timetabled classes each week including a group tutorial with your personal tutor, who will support and encourage you throughout the duration of the course.

As part of the course employer visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance and contextualise your learning.

FEES

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
