Developing Employability Skills

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This is a course for learners who wish to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for progressing onto supported internships, paid work and volunteering. Students will have an opportunity to access internal and external work experience and work with employers to support them. 

This flexible programme will be tailored to meet the needs of the individualised students. The course will comprise of a number of core units focusing on a range of employability skills. The main aim of the course is to prepare students to access supported internships, supported employment, voluntary work or further education courses. 

As part of the course you will be able to develop your employability, personal and social skills through the curriculum offer. The course consists of English and maths, enrichment, tutorial, enterprise and dependent on work readiness work experience with half/one days spent with an employer or internal placements.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Suitability and assessments will be discussed at interview and based on individual circumstances.

Entry 2 for English and maths is preferred.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

All students will compile a portfolio of evidence that will contain a mixture of photographs, witness statements, personal statements and course work. The portfolios are internally assessed and verified prior to external verification by an Awarding Body.

Some students complete a portfolio which records their progress and development using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Personal Achievement), these portfolios are internally verified.

Some students will be entered for Functional Skills English and maths live assessments at the level indicated during initial assessments and verified through continuous diagnostic assessments, or if they are not yet ready will do RARPA English and maths qualifications.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Students will have the opportunity to progress onto supported Internships or onto Foundation Learning or mainstream courses.
Progression is subject to students meeting the eligibility criteria for the programme applied for.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

All students will participate in small group sessions comprising no more than 10 students. The students will demonstrate skills in a mixture of practical and formal based learning environments. Students are supported within specialist provision for learners with SEND.

FEES

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.

Adult Students (19+)

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
