Creative Media Production & Technology - Level 2

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Whether you dream of working in television, film, animation, website development, or photography, this course equips you with the creative and technical skills to launch your career in one of the UK’s largest and most exciting sectors.

Over the course of a year, you’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of media production techniques, building your knowledge and expertise in both creative design and technical execution. With the growing demand for skilled media professionals, this course is designed to set you up for further study or a rewarding career in the creative industries.

This course provides a well-rounded introduction to the world of creative media production, focusing on both practical and theoretical aspects of the industry. Key areas include:

  • TV & Film Production – Learn the fundamentals of both location and studio-based production, from planning and shooting to post-production techniques
  • Basic Animation – Explore the techniques used in animation and gain hands-on experience in creating digital animations
  • Website Development – Get an introduction to website development, including the basics of HTML, CSS, and user experience (UX) design
  • Photography – Master the technical and artistic skills of photography, including camera handling, composition, and editing

Upon successful completion of the course, you will achieve a University of the Arts London Level 2 Diploma, which provides a solid foundation for further study or entry-level roles in the media industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You should have:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths at grade 3 or Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications
    or
  • A relevant Level 1 course and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths.

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.

You’ll be graded on a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Unclassified. This grading system helps you see how well you’re doing and where you can improve.

You’ll build a portfolio of your coursework, showcasing your progress throughout the course. Plus, you’ll get hands-on experience through practical assignments and receive feedback from your tutors. Some mandatory units may be assessed by external exams.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

After completing this course, you'll be well-prepared for further study or employment in the industry, such as a Level 3 Extended Diploma, which can lead to university-level study.

FEES

School Leavers (16-18)

If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.

As part of your studies, you will be required to maintain a basic kit, which includes essential tools such as a range of pencips and pens, an A4 notepad, a pair of headphones/earphones and a 32gb SD card (class 10). We also recommend you purchase a 1TB hard drive (with USB-A and USB-C adaptors) with protective case, to store and transport your digital design files.
