Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools - Level 3

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course will help you gain the skills you need to work in schools. You will learn about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare and communication.

An assessor will visit you at work and observe your interactions with children and staff. You will be asked about the way you approach your job and why, which will allow you to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding you have gained in class. You will also create a portfolio of your activities in your workplace.

You will learn in dedicated classrooms, some will have access to computers for self-study, project work and class work. Other resources include access to learning materials in the Learning Centre.

The course runs for 3 hours per week with an additional 2 days (minimum) working or volunteering in a primary school.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

  • Supporting Teaching & Learning - Level 2
    or
  • Equivalent experience of working in a school
  • A good command of spoken and written English (working at Level 2 or equivalent)

You must be working/volunteering as a teaching assistant in a school for a minimum of two days per week.

You will also have an interview at enrolment, so we can ensure the course is right for you.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Part of the course will be assessed in the workplace. You will also need to produce a portfolio of evidence to show you have completed the performance criteria.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

You will be able to move to a higher level qualification and it may help towards promotion in your employment.
You could continue your studies and progress to university if desired.
You could work as a qualified classroom assistant, supporting the teacher and helping children in a primary school.

Adult Students (19+)

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August before your course starts, are resident in London, and have the legal right to stay in the UK for at least 12 months, you may be eligible to study for free, depending on your circumstances and chosen course. For more information, please click here.
