Available at: Hammersmith & Fulham College
ABOUT THIS COURSE

If you're considering a career in health or social care, working with adults, children, or young people, our Level 1 course is the perfect starting point. This programme is designed to give you the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to embark on a career in this highly rewarding and essential sector.

Throughout the course, you will study a range of important units that will provide you with a broad understanding of the health and social care industry. You will learn about the range of service provision and the various roles within health and social care, covering both adults and children and young people. This will give you an insight into how the sector works and how different professionals contribute to supporting individuals in need of care.

You will also focus on understanding the principles and values that underpin effective health and social care. This includes learning about the ethical and professional standards that guide practitioners in providing high-quality care to individuals. The course will help you gain a solid understanding of the importance of safeguarding and protection in health and social care settings, ensuring that you are aware of the critical procedures and practices to ensure the safety and well-being of both service users and staff.

As part of your study programme, you will also develop essential personal skills and gain knowledge that will enhance your ability to work in a care setting.

You’ll also be encouraged to take part in work experience to develop your employability skills further, allowing you to apply your learning in a real-world environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

We recommend that you have:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and maths
    or
Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3

At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you. You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

Your assessments are designed to match what you’ve learned. All your work will be marked by your tutors, giving you a chance to show off your skills in real-world situations.
