Our Level 1 Electrical Installation course is the perfect first step if you’re looking to start a career in the electrical trade.
Designed to provide a solid introduction to the electrical industry, this course combines practical skills with essential knowledge to prepare you for further training or an apprenticeship.
Delivered by experienced tutors in industry-standard workshops, this hands-on course is ideal for those who enjoy problem-solving, working with their hands, and learning in a practical environment.
Electrical installers, or electricians, are highly valued construction professionals who earn well. This technical trade equips learners with engineering skills that enable them to thrive in the industry.
This course is predominantly for 16 - 18 with a limited number of spaces for 19+.
We recommend that you have:
- Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and maths
or
- Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3
At enrolment, you will have an interview with our course tutors to ensure the course is right for you.
You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.
Assessment of the skills attained during the course will be short practical electrical assemblies which are assessed by the tutor. Tutor marked short written tests will be used to provide evidence of electrical basic theory required by the awarding body. Student produced portfolios will be assessed by the college and City and Guilds.
Achievement of this qualification allows learners to progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations and/or employment.
You will learn a range of basic skills and the underpinning knowledge that is essential in electrical installation. Topics studied may include:
- Basic electrical theory and safety
- Installing and testing simple electrical circuits
- Working with different cables, conduits, and fittings
- Understanding tools, materials, and industry standards
- Health and safety in electrical work
- Communication and teamwork on construction sites
- Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation for working in the construction industry
- Electrical installation wiring and terminations
- Electrical science and technology
The course is delivered primarily through hands-on workshop sessions, supported by classroom-based study in mathematics and science relevant to the electrical trade.
All students will be required to build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their progress and successfully complete the qualification.
In addition, learners may have the opportunity to:
- Gain a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card
- Undertake work experience to enhance their practical skills and employability
School Leavers (16-18)
If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
