Our Construction Multi-Trades Level 1 course is designed to equip you with essential employability and practical skills across many core construction disciplines. Delivered in our supportive and professionally-equipped environment at Southall Community College, this course prepares you for entry into construction-related employment or further study.
You will embark on a hands-on journey through all the major construction trades:
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying
- Plastering & Tiling
This immersive experience will not only reveal your natural talents but also empower you to choose a path that aligns with your passion, leading to a fulfilling and rewarding career in the industry.
This course is predominantly for 16 - 18 with a limited number of spaces for 19+.
We recommend that you have:
- Four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and maths
or - Functional Skills in English and maths at Entry Level 3
At enrolment, you will have an interview to ensure the course is right for you.
You may also need to complete an initial assessment in English and maths, depending on your grades.
Learners will undertake a combination of practical workshops, classroom-based learning, and project-based assessments. Assessment will be through a mix of observation, portfolio work, and short written tasks. The programme culminates in the achievement of a Level 1 Certificate qualification, recognised across the industry.
Upon successful completion, learners will be well-positioned to:
- Move into sustained employment in an entry-level construction role
- Undertake further study at Level 2 in a chosen specialist trade
- Progress into an apprenticeship in construction
The programme provides foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in the following key trades:
- Carpentry and Joinery
- Bricklaying
- Plastering and Drylining
- Property Maintenance Operative (PMO) TBC
In addition to technical skills, the course will focus on:
- Health and Safety in Construction
- Employability Skills and Work Readiness
- Teamworking and Communication on Site
- CV Development and Interview Preparation
- Site Conduct and Professionalism
School Leavers (16-18)
If you will be 16, 17 or 18 years old on 31 August before your course starts, and you have the legal right to live in the UK for the full length of your study programme, your course will be free.
